Famous streets of Rome: via dei Barbieri

A little history

Via dei Barbieri it's located near Campo dè Fiori in an important and refined 17th century building called Palazzo Cavallerini Lazzaroni, at the civic number 7. The street takes its name from the "Università dei Barbieri", founded in 1271 and located in the same street.

The Confraternity of the Barbers

The Confraternity of the Barbers moved to the church of the Santissima Trinità near the Torre Argentina where a commemorative plaque recalls the event with the following inscription: "L'alma confraternità di S. Rocco e S. Sebastiano de' barbieri, trasferendosi da questa sua antica chiesa, ove stava fin dal 1271, a quella della Trinità de' Pellegrini, in adempimento del Breve Apostolico 17 dicembre 1609, concessele da Paolo V, pose questa memoria AD MDCCCXIV" (The Confraternity of San Rocco and San Sebastiano of the Barbers, moving from this, its ancient church, where it had been since 1271, to that of the Trinità de' Pellegrini, in compliance with the Apostolic Brief of December 17, 1609, granted by Pope Paul V, placed this memorial in 1814).
