Former White House aide Peter Navarro reported to a federal prison in Miami on Tuesday, becoming the first person convicted for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Navarro, 74, was convicted last year of contempt of Congress after he refused to cooperate with the investigation into the attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters.

Navarro, who holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University, served in the Trump administration as Deputy Assistant to the President and director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy.

Navarro's sentencing follows a series of legal challenges that he has unsuccessfully filed in an attempt to overturn his conviction.
