RuaidhrĂ Higgins savoring Derry City's showdown with Shamrock Rovers

Candystripes boss relishes prospect of taking on league leaders at sold-out Brandywell

Higgins hoping to end Rovers’ unbeaten start to the season

RuaidhrĂ Higgins is relishing the prospect of Derry City taking on league leaders Shamrock Rovers at a sold-out Brandywell on Friday night.

The Candystripes boss is hoping to end Rovers’ unbeaten start to the season and move his side up the table.

Higgins said: “It’s a massive game for us. Shamrock Rovers are the best team in the country and they’re unbeaten in the league this season.

“But we’re at home and we’re playing in front of a sold-out crowd, so we’re going to give it our all to get a result.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re confident that we can get something out of it.”

Higgins is hoping to have a fully fit squad to choose from, with the exception of long-term absentee Ciaran Coll.

The Derry boss is likely to make changes to the side that beat UCD last time out, with the likes of Jamie McGonigle, Matty Smith and Will Patching all pushing for starts.

Rovers, meanwhile, will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and extend their lead at the top of the table.

The Hoops have won six of their seven games so far, and they will be confident of getting a result at the Brandywell.

Rovers boss Stephen Bradley said: “Derry are a good side and they’re always tough to beat at home.

“But we’re in good form and we’re confident that we can get a result.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re looking forward to it.”

The game is set to be a sell-out, with over 6,000 tickets already sold.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm on Friday night.
